We, members of social movements throughout the region, we come to express to you, your Government and all the Ecuadorian people, our solidarity with the process of transformation that takes place in the country under the Citizen Revolution.
As you have stated on many occasions we are facing a new era in our country where our people have decided to take charge of their own destinies, to defend their sovereignty and to consider new paradigms that challenge capitalism and all its structures of domination, as those are media companies.
The revolution is waging a public battle for the democratization of communications and true freedom of expression. For this reason, we believe that Ecuador must remain at the forefront of this struggle and as such, grant political asylum to Julian Assange, now pursued in the United States and interests that seek to take away peoples right to be informed.
Grant political asylum is a courageous action by Ecuador, which shows that the heroic people of Alfaro is not willing to surrender one iota of its sovereignty, but also shows that Latin America is built today as full space sovereignty, freedom and peace full.
